Weekly Water Saving Tip #47

Irrigation is still every 10 to 14 days. I hope everyone is taking the effort now to turn the irrigation clocks down. If not, you will be spending an excessive amount of time in the summer trying to keep your lawn and landscape alive. It cannot be over emphasized that now is the best time of year to establish a good deep root system. The importance of deep roots should not be overlooked. This is what will give us the plants we so desire next year. Deep roots have a major impact on water conservation and the ability of the plants in the landscape to grow well in dry weather. Promoting deep rooting of the plants in your landscape gives them a much larger reservoir from which to draw moisture. And this allows irrigation frequency to be reduced in those summer months, and therefore, saves water. Again, deep roots are encouraged by making the plants find the deep moisture through correct irrigation practices.

On Saturday, November 19 — A workshop on How to Maintain Desert Plants. Will be held at the Tonaquint Nature Center at 10 a.m. Everyone’s been planting desert plants, so now attend this class and learn how to take of them through all the seasons. The workshop is free, but space is limited, so please call and reserve your spot.
