Aug 02, 2005 Weekly Water Saving Tip
Last Updated: 2005-08-02 13:36:02
During the continued hot month of August remember to check your irrigation system for any damage heads or improper coverage. Missing or damaged heads usually occur after mowing. So after you mow the lawn, run the sprinklers to check for any damage. A system with efficient coverage will have the spray of water from one head reaching to the other head. This is referred to as "head to head" coverage. When running the system, check for head to head coverage and adjust each head to get the even distribution.
Irrigation for turf this week is every 3-4 days. We are still offering free water checks, so, if you need more information on proper irrigation of your landscape call 673-3617.
It is important to keep watching for weeds. This is the time of year when the turf and garden become stressed this is when weeds can move in and compete with the other plants for water. Insects can also become a problem so watch for them as well.
A free workshop is coming up on Saturday, August 27 titled: Fall into Gardening.
The workshop will discuss that one of the benefits of living in southern Utah is the long growing season. You will learn how to make this climate work for you and your vegetables. The workshop will be held at the Tonaquint Nature Center at 10 a.m. Now it is free, but space is limited so please call 673-3617 to reserve your spot.
