June 22, 2005 Weekly Water Saving Tip
Last Updated: 2005-06-22 13:02:05
The irrigation frequency for turf this week is every 3-4 days. Now, remember this is a guideline. When it comes to plants there isn’t a hard and fast rule. How often you water will depend on the microclimate conditions for your yard. However, observe your plants and try to keep the time between irrigations as long as possible. The longer the interval between irrigation’s the better the plants will do.
It has been mentioned every week, and again this week. Make sure to check your sprinkler system for any damage after each mowing. Don’t wait until problems occur with the plants before checking to see if everything in the system is working right. Preventive maintenance is always the best thing. It saves water, money, plants and many times personal stress.
Now this past week, I’ve seen a lot of irrigation system watering during the day. So, I wanted to remind everyone to check your system’s timer. Make sure it is set correctly. Water is wasted to evaporation when watered in the heat of the day, so please check these periodically to make sure your preferences are still programmed. Also make sure the time is set for after 8 p.m. or before 8 a.m.
