June 7, 2005 Weekly Water Saving Tip
Last Updated: 2005-06-07 10:42:11
Over the past several weeks we have mentioned how to water the plants in the landscape. Specifically mentioning that it is important for you to make sure that the sprinkling system is in a good working condition and that repairs should be made as soon as they occur. This is best done after each mowing.
We have mentioned that no system is perfect and that if watering is done correctly, dry spots may occur. When this happens, they should be watered by hand. Irrigation for turf this week is every 3 days. After an irrigation, check to make sure that moisture is down 6 inches into the root zone and adjust the time accordingly. We are offering free water checks for residential homes. A water check is a series of test performed on your irrigation system. After the check, we can give you guidelines on how to improve your system and how to water appropriately to minimize your water use, yet keep a healthy looking landscape. Did I mention that it’s free?
We are also offering a Free workshop this Saturday, June 11 titled: Irrigation Systems 101.
This workshop will teach the basics in design for a new or renovating irrigation systems. Recognize irrigation problem areas, such as slopes, narrow areas and soil types. This workshop is designed for the do-it-yourself or the consumer who is looking for a basic understanding when hiring a contractor.
